| | Pianist Francisco Lomuto, born in 1893, had already composed his first Tango by the age of 13, although it wasn't published until five years later. More compositions followed, and in the early 1920s he began his own orchestra. Throughout the 1930s and 1940s it was one of the most popular dance orchestras, with a distinctive sound and a rock-steady beat.
